Under the terms of the National Film Preservation Act, each year the Librarian of Congress names to the National Film Registry 25 motion pictures that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. In addition to advising the Librarian of Congress on the annual selection of titles to the National Film Registry, the NFPB also provides counsel on national preservation planning policy. In that capacity, it issued the following statement: “The National Film Preservation Board continues to embrace its commitment to honor those films that are part of our national memory by consulting with the Library of Congress in its annual selection of titles to be added to the National Film Registry.
