Out-of-the-Body Travel (1976), was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award and for the William Carlos Williams Prize. His most recent book is The Marriage in the Trees (1997). Mr. Plumly is a recipient of many other awards and honors, including seven Pushcart Prizes and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Ingram-Merrill Foundation. He has taught at many universities around the country, including the University of Iowa, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, Ohio University, Princeton University, and Columbia University. He is at present a member of the Department of English at the University of Maryland. The poetry and literature reading series at the Library of Congress is the oldest in the Washington area, and one of the oldest in the United States.
