Associate Professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Delaware, on "Early Japanese Picture Books at the Library of Congress: Beauty, Horror, and Humor"; and Peter Kornicki, Professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Cambridge, on "The Dangers of Reading in Edo-period Japan." The all-day symposium takes place on Saturday in the Library's Mumford Room, sixth floor of the Madison Building. The year's film programs conclude with two films related to the work of Margaret Mead: "Ubangi" (Louis Neuman, 1931) and "Untamed Africa" (Wynant Hubbard, 1933), Pickford Theater, third floor of the Madison Building, at 6:30 p.m. See entry for December 4 for reservations information.
