Every year for the past few years I have wondered how long it is going to be permitted. Shane MacGowan is an excellent poet and this song is a piece of poetry wrapped up in music. Just leave the song the way the song was written and stop trying to rewrite the song. It’s only a homophobic slur if your American. I’ve never heard it used in the U.K. other than to describe a bundle of wood or a meat dish. If we stopped using everything that offends we’d be in a monastery with a vow of silence. Ah - I see - we wouldn't want to upset the younger generation would we at this one time of year, while they listen to rap songs containing words to describe other races, guns, killing, stabbing, being derogatory to women now would we? We pander to these minorities at the peril of a free society. Why should the majority of the public that's unoffended be dictated to by the offended few.
