 Insecticides/pesticides used to protect our crops in turn harm other invertebrates, again reducing biodiversity and negatively effecting ecosystems. I feel similarly. You only have to look at the mono-cropping of almonds in California to see the damage that is being done to the environment. I think there'd be even more stripping of rainforest to produce palm oil. I'm not defending the current system, in which a friend of mine saw NZ lamb in a Welsh supermarket recently, for less than the price of Welsh lamb. That's crazy in the extreme too. The whole world cannot go vegan for the simple reason most of the Earth land is unsuitable for agriculture and only can sustain animals.

 This thought experiment is a joke, because it does not take into account who will feed the countries where fruit and veg is a luxury, it does not take into account the cost of transport (financially and environmentally) and it does not take into account that the whole world does not consist of countries and people bloated by consumerism, wealth and waste. I watched the BBC clip hoping it would tell me how the world would cope if we all went vegan but nothing was explained loads on climate and getting rid of cows but no projections on soil management,what happens when crops get eaten,when the weather ruins crops are we going to have to use land that has been re-wilded for nature I could go on but the BBC missed these questions.

  I’m vegan now. Tessa Barton I'm still a meat eater but I eat meat like it's the 70's a couple of cheap cuts in the week and a nice joint at the weekend that you turn into a couple of meals...then veggie/salad type meals inbetween. I have throught hard about being a vegetarian says the butcher's daughter...but when I look in the shops and see all that processed vegan stuff with all the chemical ingredients and flavourings and it makes me wonder just how much resources does it take to make that stuff is it really a healthier option.  Daily deaths and hospitalisations are a more concrete statistic of the severity of the pandemic than the number of daily reported cases as many people don't even bother to get a test done. Remember too that not all Covid cases are Omicron, more deadly Delta is still with us. So although I'm generally hopefully that we are fairly rapidly approaching the endemic phase I am concerned that this may be at least a couple of weeks too soon. NB supported by medical experts who give a far more detailed analysis of where we currently actually may be with the pandemic. I'm cautiously hopeful that my own employer might from a Health and Safety point of view take a far firmer stance for at least the next couple of weeks.
