 The aim of the clinic, held as part of the National Book Festival taking place the same day, is to provide conservation advice and information to library visitors on how best to care for their books, scrapbooks, albums, photographs and prints. The Conservation Clinic continues the educational efforts of the Preservation Awareness Workshops that have been conducted at the Library for the past five years. Throughout the day, conservators from the Library will be available to evaluate items and provide conservation advice. Visitors are asked to bring no more than two items to the clinic for evaluation. Conservators will also be demonstrating conservation techniques, such as gold tooling on leather, photograph repair, and sewing a book. Examples of protective enclosures for books and photographs will be on display. Informational pamphlets about the Library's preservation and conservation program and how to obtain conservation services will also be available.

In memory of Eddie Van Halen 1955 2020 signatures thank you for the Legacy shirt

 Associate Professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Delaware, on "Early Japanese Picture Books at the Library of Congress: Beauty, Horror, and Humor"; and Peter Kornicki, Professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Cambridge, on "The Dangers of Reading in Edo-period Japan."  Pianist Brian Zeger made his debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and has appeared at such distinguished venues as Carnegie Hall, the London Barbican Centre, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He has performed in concert with violinist Itzhak Perlman, flutist James Galway and song recitalists Marilyn Horne, Kathleen Battle and Arleen Auger. The ensemble Klezmer Madness! performs traditional music of Eastern European Jews, brought to the United States by immigrants during the period 1880 to 1920. Working with Will Holshouser, accordion; Kevin Norton, percussionist; Nicki Parrott, bassist; and Mark Stewart, electric guitar, David Krakauer both explores the tradition and expands it, incorporating such diverse musical influences as Sidney Bechet, John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown.

 The Veterans History Project is a project of the Library of Congress through its American Folklife Center to collect and preserve oral histories and documentary materials from veterans of World War I, World War II, and the Korean, Vietnam, and Persian Gulf wars. The project was created by Congress in legislation sponsored by Senators Max Cleland and Chuck Hagel, and Representatives Ron Kind, Amo Houghton, and Steny Hoyer. The legislation passed unanimously in both the House and Senate. AARP is the founding private sector sponsor of the project.The Library of Congress today received a donation of nearly 300 books from the Arts Council of Switzerland, Pro Helvetia. The ambassador of Switzerland to the United States, Christian Blickenstorfer, presented the books today to the Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, in a brief ceremony.
