Luis Neves they've been getting more common due to how the atmospheric warming works allowing for higher overshooting tops that last longer, even without the satellite measuring the temperatures you're still able to visually look at them and get a pretty good average of how high they usually go and the relative temperature the top of it would be, having the satellite is nice though. It's very plausible to predict that warming would lead to higher cloud tops. But the article almost made it seem like being able to properly measure cloud tops was a recent thing, which if true could skew the data to make the effect seem more pronounced than it is. Very common to get hail storms in the Dan Antonio area during the heat of the summer.
