  The ideas in philosophy are often general and abstract. When I did it in school, children appeared mentally much more mature and in some instances ahead of most adults when considering behaviour and the consequences of human exchanges and actions. It was a travesty that it hasn’t been adopted in schools. What is the point of knowing history if we learn nothing from it; hatred, greed, fear, the desire for power, anger, a lack of empathy all impact on how violent a society might be. Allow our youth to explore the consequences of such negativity and what the alternatives might be. National service. Actual harsh punishments.

 the system is letting people down with mental health hugely, there is no resources out there, we’re given tablets and sent off, we wait 12weeks for counselling and that’s sometimes given by volunteers for a small donation (some can’t afford a donation) Then again people don’t understand mental health, especially if none of you have experienced it yourself, it’s horrendous and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Some of the comments on here are just shocking, if you’re going to comment get yourself educated on mental health, because it’s not as B&W as all of you like to believe!  You're saying the 'system' failed him, but the 'system' reached out to him many times. I'm sorry, but a man does not drop down to the weight of a child in the space of a few weeks. What else could the 'system' do when his own family weren't supporting him? Kirsty Hague this could happen to anyone . I don’t have any family at all if I got ill there is literally no one to check up on me other than friends and if I socially isolate myself they soon stop checking too. This happens a lot.

 We now have no functional care system or community values. It shouldn’t just be left to the community or charity. People used to die alone and in shame in workhouses before we had a welfare state. The point of this is that our welfare state is being eroded, we are going backwards to a time when the UK was very unequal. Not everyone has family and friends. It’s appalling that people are blaming his family and friends when he should have been given the benefits he needed. What kind of society are we turning into? The Headless Dry Bones happy Halloween shirt

 They had food and a bit of care from many families in the village, even though the government gave them nothing. That small system of human taking care of human seems to work better than a big bureaucratic mechanism asking people who let a man die of starvation. I can understand that a mechanism and system have no human face.  I used to work there and I was simply mindblown with their courtesy, concern, sincerity, generosity & nurturing nature. Never have I been to a place where kindness is a religion. Bless you, Laos! It would be lovely if everywhere was like that!
