 Ben Model will provide live musical accompaniment. “McCabe and Mrs. Miller” is an aesthetically acclaimed film that demonstrates why the Western genre, especially when reinvented by director Robert Altman, endured in the 20th century as a useful model for critically examining the realities of contemporary American culture. The landscape and characters converge in the role of the film’s production. Altman had the set built from scratch according to specific historical parameters. Cast and crew lived in the buildings, which gradually emerged as the town of Presbyterian Church.

The archive includes about 6 million sound recordings, manuscripts, photographs and other items -- 5 million of which have been acquired in the last 40 years.  The Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater in Culpeper, Virginia, will showcase the little screen on the big screen in February by devoting its programming to the medium of television.

 The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and its Young Readers Center will sponsor two events to mark the 150th anniversary of the Lewis Carroll classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” On Friday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m., the Young Readers Center hosts a special “dress-up” story time featuring Carroll’s classic. All costumed children will be invited to join an “Alice parade” on the first two floors of the Thomas Jefferson Building. Inside the Young Readers Center, a display of several versions of the book, games and other artifacts will be on view during April.
