Greek novelist Nicholas Papandreou will read from his works at 6:45 p.m. May 13 in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the Library of Congress James Madison Memorial Building, 101 Independence Ave. SE. The reading is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Mr. Papandreou was born in 1956 in San Francisco to a family of prominent Greek politicians and academics. His father, Andreas, and his grandfather, George, served as prime minister of Greece, and his brother, George, is a member of the Greek Cabinet.

 Pat Oliphant at the Library of Congress," a new exhibition in the South Gallery of the newly restored Great Hall of the Jefferson Building. The latter exhibition includes 51 political drawings, spanning Oliphant's career from his 1966 Pulitzer Prize winning cartoon to new work, with an emphasis on recent drawings. The exhibition includes the artist's working sketchbooks, illustrations, paintings, monotypes, and sculpture.Prize-winning Austrian author Christoph Ransmayr will read from his work at 6:45 p.m. April 6 in the Southeast Pavilion of the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, at 10 First Street S.E. Tickets are not required, but a response is requested by calling (202) 895-6776. Mr. Ransmayr has written three novels. His first, The Terrors of Ice and Darkness (Die Schrecken des Eises und der Finsternis), published in 1984, is a gripping, complex adventure interwoven with journal entries of the Royal Austro-Hungarian arctic expedition of 1872-74.

 During his first term, Mr. Pinsky offered a lecture at the Library on "Digital Culture and the Individual Soul," brought a range of poets to read at the Library, granted $12,500 in fellowships to poets Carol Muske and Carl Phillips from the Witter Bynner Foundation in conjunction with the Library of Congress, and launched his Favorite Poem Project with a five-city public poetry reading and publicity tour. Mr. Pinsky also initiated what he hopes will become a tradition among Laureates, the printing of a poem by a former Laureate in decorative broadside form. The Library of Congress is the greatest house of memory in the world. There is more human striving recorded and cataloged in this institution than there has ever been anywhere. It is appropriate for a poet to be attached to a place of memory because poetry is an ancient way of enhancing memory, a means that predates writing."   The comprehensive collections of the Library of Congress comprise a unique national resource for an exhibition of this scope on the role that religion played in the founding of this country. The Library's Manuscript Division holds the major collections of the papers of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, those founders most instrumental in establishing the church-state policy of the new nation, as well as the papers of many of their colleagues, such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, who also interested themselves in this issue. The Library's Rare Book and Special Collections Division contains thousands of pamphlets and broadsides covering all aspects of religion in early America.Among the artifacts that have been borrowed for the exhibition are: the stained glass "Liberty Window" from Christ Church, Philadelphia, showing Washington and the members of the First Continental Congress at prayer; communion silver used at Jamestown;
